United beat rivals Liverpool with record 19th title – 2011
In 2011 Sir Alex Ferguson was already widely regarded as quite possibly the greatest manager ever to walk the touchline in football.
His record spoke for itself, yet he still went another step further to endear himself to Manchester United fans by winning his 12th title at Old Trafford but more importantly United’s 19th, which took them one above great rivals Liverpool.
Fergie once again beat Chelsea into second place and had taken the Red Devils to being arguably the best team in English football history.
A 38th trophy and a sad goodbye – 2013
On 8 May 2013, after having wrapped up the title with four games to spare for the 13th time in Sir Alex’s career, the 71-year-old announced his retirement from Old Trafford.
After an amazing 27 years at the club Ferguson has changed the face of football in England and across Europe beyond belief.
As well as an enormous 38 trophies in 27 years, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues, Ferguson has turned United into a global brand to rival the best businesses.
Whether the Scot can ever be truly replaced is highly unlikely and it is a strange fact that many Red Devils fans probably don’t even remember anyone else being at the helm in the red half of Manchester.
Fact – Fergie’s last game in charge against Swansea on May 19 will be his 1,500th as United manager.
