Seahawks’ Wright responds with own tweet on the ‘forty whiners’.
San Francisco 49ers running back Anthony Dixon has begun the war of words ahead of the weekend’s clash with the Seattle Seahawks.
The NFC West rivals go head-to-head on Sunday, and Dixon hasn’t been shy to share his thoughts on their upcoming opponents although it remains to be seen whether or not it was a wise move.
The 25-year-old posted his thoughts on Twitter on Wednesday night, but despite later deleting the tweet on Thursday morning it wasn’t before the media had picked up on it.
“Extra weight on the racks all week getting less sleep preparing for these She-Hawks I love hostile environments Imma feel right at home…” he said as reported by ESPN.
However, if if his intention was to rile his opponents ahead of the clash then it would appear his strategy worked as he garnered a response from Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright.
The pair were college team-mates at Mississippi State, and while Wright also later deleted his tweet their antics would in all probability have not impressed the coaching staff or management at their respective franchises.
“lol the she hawks!! I’ll be sure relay the message to the fellas.. Its gone be a long night for you and the forty whiners,” Wright responded.
The 49ers held off the Seahawks last season to win the NFC West title for the second year in a row, but lost last time they played at CenturyLink Field.
However, both teams got off to a winning start last weekend, with the 49ers securing a 34-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers while the Seahawks defeated the Carolina Panthers 12-7.
