Manchester United striker Federico Macheda is set to join Newcastle United on a season long loan.
Macheda spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A team Sampdoria, but had a difficult time as the club were relegated.
“Macheda will not return to Italy,” explained the young forward’s agent Giovanni Bia.
“Manchester United will send him on loan in the Premier League.
“At this time, Newcastle have the edge over Queens Park Rangers.”
Macheda demonstrated his potential when he came on to score vital goals in the 2009 Premier League title run-in, but his career has since stalled.
Sir Alex Ferguson will hope that Macheda will reap the same benefits from a Premier League loan that Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck clearly have.
