Huge spending French club happy to spend £40m on Chelsea’s Juan Mata…
Ligue 1 champions and French giants PSG are willing to pay £40m for Chelsea’s unsettled playmaker Juan Mata when the January transfer window opens in January, reports The Daily Star.
Mata was a reported target for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United over the summer, but Chelsea were not willing to sell the Spaniard to a Premier League rival.
Despite winning consecutive Chelsea Player of the Year awards, and being a crucial piece in the jigsaw that led the Blues to Champions league triumph in 2012 and the Europa League in 2013 – Mata has only made five league starts under new boss Jose Mourinho.
The legendary Portuguese coach has preferred young Brazilian Oscar to play the no.10 role, meaning Mata has had to remain patient on the bench.
With the World Cup in Brazil looming, Mata is reportedly becoming agitated by his position at the club, and will jump at the chance to move if Chelsea accept a large offer.
With the likes of Willian, Hazard, Oscar and Shcurrle already at the club, Chelsea can afford to part with Mata, and would likely be willing to do business for the mooted £40m transfer fee.
The 25-year-old would no doubt make the Ligue 1 champions an even strong Champions League opponent (although he would be cup-tied until next season) but Barcelona could also follow up on previous interest and make an offer for the player, too.
