Manchester City will need to move quickly on Paul Pogba if they hope to land the Juventus star defender before Barcelona’s signing ban is lifted in January.
According to WorldSoccerTalk and HITC Sport, Barcelona has confirmed interest in Pogba despite being prohibited from signing new players due to a violation of signing rules.
“It is true that Pogba is a leading target of ours and obviously we are interested, but I can’t say anything more,” Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said. “We are forbidden to recruit players until January, so I can’t talk about it.”
WorldSoccerTalk reported that Pogba has stated before that he would love a chance to play alongside Lionel Messi – who beat his Juventus team this past weekend in the Champions League Final – and Pogba’s agent said that an offer of £70 million or more would be too much for the club to pass up.
The 22-year-old French midfielder has been with Juventus in Serie A since departing Man United in 2012. Since then, Juventus has won three straight Serie A titles and Pogba was named to the Serie A Team of the Year in 2013-14. Pogba also has 20 goals in 89 appearances with the club.
