Shamrock Rovers became the first Irish team ever to reach the group stage of the UEFA Europa League with a sensational 2-1 victory at Partizan Belgrade.
Having drawn the first leg 1-1 on aggregate, the Dublin side were far from favourites to progress, and duly fell behind to a goal from Vladimir Volka.
However, Rovers rallied superbly, and a phenomenal strike from Patrick Sullivan levelled the tie.
Neither team could find another goal before 90 minutes were out though, and extra time loomed.
The stalemate continued, and suddenly the teams were heading to penalties, but it was one strike from the spot that would eventually decide which team would be eliminated.
Karl Sheppard was brought down in the area, and Stephen O’Donnell fired home to seal the win – and make history.
