Newcastle United have today completed a deal for young Inter Milan defender Davide Santon.
The 20 year-old is believed to have cost around £5m, and signs a five year contract to move to St James’ Park.
Santon was hailed as a prodigy when he broke through for Internazionale in 2009; proving himself with a fine performance against then Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo in the UEFA Champions League.
However, his career stalled somewhat, and he spent last season on loan at Cesena as pressure to consistently repeat his early brilliance appeared to get to him.
“At this time, there is no possibility that Santon can join Roma because right now the aim is Newcastle,” said Santon’s agent Claudio Vigorelli earlier today.
Now it appears that with the deal complete, Santon can make a fresh start at Newcastle United.
