Partenopei summer spending not over yet as officials meet.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has met with both Rafa Benitez and Riccardo Bigon in order to discuss their next moves in the transfer market
The trio met in Castel Volturno on Wednesday according to La Gazzetta dello Sport with just days remaining before the new Serie A season starts, as they look to continue to improve the squad the Spaniard inherited from Walter Mazzarri.
While Edinson Cavani was sold for €64m to French giants PSG, the Partenopei have brought in the likes of Dries Mertens and Gonzalo Higuain but it is still felt that they need further reinforcements in order to compete both in Italy and in the Champions League.
Amongst Benitez’s priorities is a new defender as the Emirates Cup demonstrated that they still lack quality in the back-line if they are going to be considered as a genuine threat in Europe.
Recent speculation has suggested that Cagliari have rejected their bid for defender Davide Astori, while interest in Liverpool stopper Martin Skrtel has cooled after initial speculation claimed a loan deal was close to being concluded.
Elsewhere, Napoli are still looking for alternatives for Higuain in attack, with Alessandro Matri seemingly their priority after reports of a deal being close.
However, there is also speculation that they could be looking at Chilean youngster Nicolas Castillo, while Estudiantes marksman Duvan Zapata also remains on their shortlist.
With such little time left before the new campaign gets underway, it remains to be seen whether or not the club will be able to bring any more significant new faces before the transfer deadline.
If they are to challenge the likes of Juventus and AC Milan for the Scudetto this season, Benitez will know the importance of bringing in another defender before the window closes.
