With Manchester United striker and captain Wayne Rooney set to miss the next three games after a needless straight red card in this weekend’s win over West Ham United, here’s a look at how Louis van Gaal’s side could line up wihtout him.
Much has been made of Rooney’s form of late, and it must be said that the Red Devils possibly look stronger without him in that number 10 role, with other players perhaps better suited to playing behind the main strikers.
In a diamond formation, here’s how we think United should look in the next three games as Rooney sits out:
Goalkeeper and defence:
Ideally sticking to a back four after failing with his experimental three at the back, van Gaal should line up as usual in defence, with the likes of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones as first choice when they return to full fitness.
