Manchester United have offered a new contract to Dimitar Berbatov, according to Goal.com.
The Bulgarian striker has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford thanks to the wonderful form of Javier Hernandez last season – as well as the surprising breakthrough of Danny Welbeck in the current campaign.
It is an interesting dilemma for the 30 year-old Berbatov – who was of course the joint top Premier League goalscorer last season.
He shared that accolade with Man City striker Carlos Tevez, who interestingly is also yet to start a league match with Roberto Mancini having signed Sergio Aguero to partner Edin Dzeko.
Should Berbatov stay at Man Utd, it may be to offer Sir Alex Ferguson a different option up front to all his other forwards, and collect one final payday in the process.
For the club, it prevents them losing him on a free.
