Manchester United summer signing Luke Shaw has been struggling with fitness and personal problems since joining the club from Southampton last year, it has been revealed.
The England international, a £30m signing from the Saints on the back of a superb season at the St Mary’s Stadium last term, has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford.
Still only 19, Shaw impressed greatly at his previous club, earning a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad in the summer and playing one game as the Three Lions crashed out at the group stage.
However, since then Shaw has struggled to adapt to life at his new club, with the Daily Mail claiming he misses his hometown team and the relationship he had with his old manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Louis van Gaal has been one of the player’s harshest critics since he joined the Red Devils, and his notable issues with the defender’s weight and fitness have seen him go on a special dietary regime at Old Trafford.
