Red Devils are determined to add a playmaker to their squad for next season.
Manchester United will turn their attentions towards Tottenham Hotspur midfield player Gareth Bale if they fail to persuade Real Madrid playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Old Trafford this summer, according to exclusive reports in the Daily Star.
The Premier League champions are hoping to be able to lure the Portugal international back to the north west when the transfer window reopens on July 1 in a transfer worth a reported £60 million, however, if that deal proves impossible to make then the Red Devils will instead switch their focus to the Tottenham star.
Bale, 23, enjoyed a sensational campaign at White Hart Lane last time out, with the wide man’s 26 goals in just 44 matches in all competitions culminating in the player being crowned the double Footballer of the Year.
However, with a contract in north London that runs until June 30 2016, it is going to need a word-record transfer bid from United in order to be able to persuade Spurs to part company with their prize asset this summer.
