Manchester United are considering selling Nemanja Vidic to Juventus, according to the Daily Star.
As preposterous as that sounds, the newspaper backs up its claim by saying that because the club have recruited Phil Jones this summer, either Vidic or Rio Ferdinand will be dropped from the Man Utd team.
It is difficult to imagine Sir Alex Ferguson dropping either Vidic or Ferdinand, given the fantastic partnership they have developed over the last few years, and the Daily Star appears to have forgotten that Chris Smalling is alive.
He deputised rather well for both Ferdinand and Vidic if either senior defender was unfit, and Jones is expected to perform a similar role this season – playing in cup competitions and when required due to absences.
Expecting him to take Vidic’s place in the team is possibly a tad premature at this stage – and Sir Alex Ferguson is almost certainly not set to sell his Serbian defender.
