Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is set to sign a new five year contract, according to Goal.com, as a reward for his impressive start to the season.
The young England international spent last season on loan at Sunderland, and performed well enough to gain a starting place at Old Trafford upon his return.
Mature build-up play coupled with a genuine goal threat has seen him leap ahead of Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen in the pecking order at Man Utd, and he is sometimes even preferred to Javier Hernandez up front.
Though Sir Alex Ferguson is obviously keen Manchester United win their UEFA Champions League group in order to avoid knockout stage opposition such as Barcelona, their position in Group C is far from certain.
Perhaps Welbeck will be asked to play his part against Otelul Galati to keep pace with Group leaders Benfica.
