Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has named David de Gea and three summer signings in his starting XI to face Barcelona in California tonight.
De Gea was considered a practical certainly to sign for Real Madrid earlier this summer, but he now appears set to stay with the Red Devils.
Goalkeeper De Gea is joined in United’s lineup by full-back Matteo Darmian, midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and pacy attacker Memphis Depay, who has been tipped to replace Angel Di Maria as Van Gaal’s no.7 before the season starts.
Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney will also face Barca from the kick-off.
Barca’s XI does not include Lionel Messi or Neymar, but former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez and Pedro, who has been heavily linked with United, start in attack.
Meanwhile, former Red Devils defender Gerard Pique lines up at the back, alongside ex-Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, who played just one La Liga game in a injury-hit season last term.
