Manchester United on Monday announced its fifth signing of the summer, with former Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero joining the club on a three-year deal.
Romero impressed for Argentina during the 2014 World Cup and has previously worked under Louis van Gaal at Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar.
The 27-year-old struggled for first team action at Sampdoria and most played second fiddle to Emilio Viviano, and it’s fair to say reaction to the signing has been mixed by supporters of the Red Devils.
Romero’s signing will surely bring Victor Valdes’ Manchester United career to an end, while the uncertain future of David de Gea has made many United fans nervous about the season ahead.
To add to the intrigue, Metro reports United have already completed a deal for Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen…

Couldn’t care less about signing Sergio Romero, if he’s our number 1 when De Gea goes it’s a serious downgrade.

manu just signed Sergio Romero I hope he’s just a backup to De Gea

We wanted Sergio Ramos, not Sergio Romero

Not convinced Sergio Romero is Man Utd quality. Seems like De Gea on his way out. Petr Cech still the best goalkeeping acquisition so far.

As happy as I am that we have a quality keeper in Sergio Romero this probably means De Gea’s time at United is finally up. :'( #mufc
