Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is reportedly considering a shock move for Celtic winger Paddy McCourt.
The Northern Ireland international hit the headlines last week with a stunning individual goal in his country’s 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.
Liverpool had been keeping tabs on the 27-year-old for quite some time and their interest has been flushed out by the attention McCourt is now receiving from other clubs in England, according to The Mirror.
He joined the Hoops in 2008 but has struggled to hold down a starting spot in the SPL.McCourt has tremendous technical ability but his lack of consistency has held him back throughout his career.
Dalglish is keen on adding some flair to the Reds squad and he is hoping he can procure the best from McCourt. The Derry-born flyer would be an unlikely starter but he is capable of coming off the bench and making an explosive impact.
The Merseysider’s liking of McCourt will come as shock to supporters having seen the big summer arrivals of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jose Enrique.
Daglish intended to purchase two orthodox wingers prior to the start of the transfer window but he was forced to change his transfer plans after the club shelled out £20m on Downing, considerably more than what the Reds originally intended to pay for one wide-man.
But Dalglish could yet get his wish for a another winger, the nominal fee that would be involved in signing McCourt means there would be little risk in purchasing the unproven talent .
