Liverpool are considering a bid for Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay, according to CaughtOffside.com.
The Netherlands international only moved to Camp Nou in January fro a nominal fee as his contract was due to expire in June but he has failed to make the impact that he had hoped. With the boasting such extraordinary attacking talents as Lionel Messi, David Villa, Pedro Rodriguez and Andres Iniesta and wining the Champions League and La Ligs, Afellay has found it hard to find game time. The addition of Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal this summer has pushed him further down the pecking order and Liverpool are ready to swoop.
The Reds were interested in signing the 25-year-old prior to his move to Barcelona but the player had his heart set on Catalunya. Now Liverpool feel that they hold the aces and are prepared to dip into their reserves to land the player that Kenny Dalglish believes would be the final piece ion the jigsaw. Capable of playing on either flank but more at home on the right, his potential arrival would provide a more orthodox option on that side aahead of the prosaic Dirk Kuyt and the more centrally-minded Jordan Henderson.
Afellay could be available for as little as £7m which would be a bargain for a player who just over 12 months ago participated in Holland’s run to the 2010 World Cup final.
