Although they have spent over £100m on transfers this calendar year, Liverpool are not ready to hang up their shopping basket just yet.
Manager Kenny Dalglish has expressed his delight at the recent purchases of Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Ada and Alexander Doni that have joined the January arrivals of Luis Suarez and Andy Carrol in his squad but he is still keen to add left back, a centre back and another wide player to his ranks. While there is money in the kitty for the two defensove positions, the Scot has been told that he will have to sell before he can invest in another winger.
Dalglish has his eye on Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay and Lille’s highly-rated Belgium international Eden Hazard. However, with the former likely to cost around £13m and the latter as much as £20m players will be moved on to make space both within the squad and on the wage bill.
According to CaughtOffside.com, the players to be shipped out are Joe Cole, Alberto Aquilani, David Ngog and Milan Jovanovic. Out of the quartet, Jovanovic is nearest the exit door with a deal all but agreed with Anderlecht over a transfer. Joe Cole has been linked to QPR, Ngog to West Ham and Aquilani to anyone in Serie A that will pay the £10m asking price.
In total they could raise around £20m which Dalglish hopes will be secure the signature of one of his targets.
