Uruguay international central defender Sebastian Coates’ transfer to Liverpool is in jeopardy after Atletico Madrid submitted a late bid.
What’s more, the bid is £9m – £2m more than the £7m Kenny Dalglish has reportedly offered.
While Coates has been personally impressed by the recommendations from Liverpool forward and international team-mate Luis Suarez, Atletico Madrid have two of his Uruguay colleagues of their own in defensive partner Diego Godin and Diego Forlan – though Forlan is expected to leave.
However, the Daily Telegraph report that Coates would prefer to move to Anfield, and that selling club Nacional have accepted that the decision now rests with the player.
In that case, Liverpool could still secure Coates signature before the end of the transfer window, with the player believed to be due in Merseyside for a medical today.
