Liverpool have suffered a blow after a diagnosis on the injury Daniel Agger sustained against Tottenham Hotspur.
Agger broke two ribs in the match, according to reports in Denmark and will now be out for four weeks.
The Dane immediately had to be substituted, with Uruguay international centre back Sebastian Coates handed his debut in quite different circumstances from that which Kenny Dalglish no doubt hoped.
It now appears that Coates will have to adapt to the team somewhat faster than Dalglish will have hoped, while Liverpool also have concerns at right back.
Martin Kelly’s injury means Liverpool have played Jon Flanagan and Martin Skrtel in recent weeks, but neither has particularly impressed – though the 18 year-old Flanagan should hardly be expected to perform week in week out at his age.
How Liverpool come through these next few weeks could define their season.
