Liverpool are on the verge of announcing the signing of Uruguay international Sebastian Coates, who has all but completed his transfer from Nacional de Montevideo.
It is believed that the 20 year-old central defender will cost Liverpool in the vicinity of £8m.
Coates is clearly talented – he won the best young player of the recent Copa America, where he triumphed alongside future club colleague Luis Suarez.
“The offer ticks all the boxes, so you can say that the transfer is a done deal,” explained a jubilant Coates.
“The chance to move to Liverpool is very attractive.
“It’s a club with a lot of tradition and history in English football, and the fact that Luis is there is a great help for me.
“I have spoken to him. He got in touch with me and we had a chat. It is good there is another Uruguayan already in the team – it is easier if there is someone I know well.
“He has told me what the club is like. It’s important because he won over the fans straight away and is scoring lots of goals. He’s doing really well, and that’s good for me as another Uruguayan arriving.”
