Liverpool have agreed to bring Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy back to Anfield on a free transfer, according to the BBC.
The move is arguably the most shocking of the summer so far, with most newspapers speculating Bellamy would depart for Celtic.
However, the Wales international would make a fine backup option for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in attack, and is clearly a more proven Premier League goalscorer than David Ngog.
It should not be forgotten that Bellamy is a short term option for Kenny Dalglish at the age of 32, but he still possesses searing pace and a cool head in front of goal.
Though Liverpool appear to have broken their ‘Moneyball’ policy of signing players with resale potential with the acquisition of Bellamy, the fact that he would be a free transfer certainly decreases the risk.
