Anderson wins a pulsating final against Taylor on a tense evening at Alexandra Palace.
Scot Gary Anderson has overcome the world’s greatest ever darts player, Phil Taylor, in a stunning PDC World Darts Championship final at Alexandra Palace this evening, to win his first world title.
Anderson eventually triumphed 7-6 after a class, that saw Anderson race into a 3-1 lead before being pegged back by Taylor – and then striking back himself. The match hinged on an incredible ninth set, that saw Anderson come from two legs down having seen a potential 180 fall out of the board to stun Taylor.
He reached 6-4, knowing that just one more set was enough to seal his maiden triumph, but was made to sweat by Taylor who leveled things up before Anderson finished things off, sparking emotional scenes in north London.
