4. Pressure needs to be on the board too
The Gunners are the fourth most valuable football team in the world, behind Manchester United, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, but they don’t capitalise on it in the same way as their rivals.
Ivan Gazidis is the highest paid chief executive of a football club in the UK, and was awarded a hefty bonus last year. Compared to Manchester United though, Arsenal have a huge amount to do, and much of the responsibility should fall with Gazidis.
Arsenal have one foreign phone partner and one deal about to expire; Manchester United have sixteen phone partners worldwide. The Red Devils have a deal in place for almost everything, from official motorcycle partner to official noodles partner.
Unless Arsenal can catch up soon, the gap is only going to get wider – and the rest of the Premier League are close to the Gunners’ level already.
It’s up to Stan Kroenke to oversee this process, rather than running Arsenal as one of the few sport teams in the world whose purpose is to make a profit.
