The big day is finally here for college football fans. No. 2 Oregon will take on No. 4 Ohio State for the national championship in the CFP Championship game.
The Ducks demolished Florida State, 59-20, in the Rose Bowl while the Buckeyes stunned Alabama, 42-35, in the Sugar Bowl.
Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota put on another Heisman-caliber performance with 338 yards and two touchdowns against one interception to go with 62 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Running backs Thomas Tyner and Royce Freeman also shined with two rushing touchdowns apiece while Tyner led the Ducks in rushing with 124 yards.
Oregon will be facing an obstacle though as wide receiver Darren Carrington has been suspended for a failed drug test. He led the Ducks in receiving in the Rose Bowl with seven catches for 165 yards and a touchdown. The Ducks have dealt with many injuries in their receiving corps.
Devon Allen left the Rose Bowl with a knee injury while Bralon Addison has been out the entire season with a torn ACL. Tight end Pharaoh Brown also suffered a season-ending knee injury against Utah.
Ohio State has also dealt with a plethora of injuries, as they are down to third-string quarterback Cardale Jones. Jones has led the Buckeyes to victories in the Big Ten Championship and Sugar Bowl though.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott also shined in the Sugar Bowl with 230 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The pass defense will be a challenge for Mariota as they intercepted Alabama quarterback Blake Sims three times.
The Buckeyes are 8-0 in games against the Ducks, most recently in the 2010 Rose Bowl. However, the Ducks offense will be too much for the Buckeyes, in addition to their hot defense.
Prediction: Oregon 38, Ohio State 27
