Chelsea will send Romelu Lukaku on loan to FC Porto this season in order to secure the signature of their Uruguay international star Alvaro Pereira.
Uruguayan journalist Edward Pinon of Ovacion and El Pais claims that Lukaku will replace Radamel Falcao up front, who departed for Atletico Madrid for a record £35m earlier this month.
While Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas was impressed with the bustling debut Lukaku made for the club against Norwich at the weekend, he also realises that the young Belgian striker will develop fastest if he is granted regular first team football – something he is unlikely to receive at Stamford Bridge.
Villas Boas was open to Lukaku moving to a Premier League club on a temporary basis, but Premier League rules forbid them from lending him to a team in the same league in the same transfer window he was signed.
There is no such issue with Porto, and now the deal for left wing back Alvaro Pereira looks likelier than ever to go through.
