Chelsea will make an eleventh hour bid to sign Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery, according to The Sun.
The Londoners have reportedly been left frustrated at their attempts to bring Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy digging in his heels over the transfer. The Croatia international is determined to move across the capital but Levy is equally as resolute to hold him to his contract of which there are five years left to run.
Chelsea have now been forced to consider alternative targets and Ribery has emerged as one. Blues owner Roman Abramovich has long held the France international in high regard and has twice been thwarted in attempts to sign him. Bayern Munich are reluctant to sell him but could be tempted should an offer of around £30m be made for a player who has suffered more than his fair share of injuries in the last couple of years.
It wwould also provide the Bundesliga side with the ability to remove his reported £180,000 a week wages from their finances and they could use the funds received to move for Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Mario Gotze.
