Chelsea are considering a £20million January bid for Real Madrid midfield Sami Khedira, according to the Daily Mirror.
The tabloid claims that Chelsea are keeping tabs on the Germany international after his relationship with Jose Mourinho soured. The Former Blues manager was critical of Khedira for getting himself sent off in Real’s shock defeat to Levante earlier this month.
Offloading the highly-rated Germany International would appear rash on the ‘Special One’s’ part. Khedira only made the switch from Stuttgart to the Spanish capital last summer and went onto impress in Real’s ‘engine room’ giving the chance for the flairs player to thrive .
The 24-year-old has only made two appearances in La Liga season, although he did play in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Ajax – a probable sign that relations between himself and his head-coach are back on track.
The report goes on to claims that Real are looking to introduce Turkish summer signings, Hamit Altintop and Nuri Sahin, and with Kaka showing glimpses of returning to form, Khedira could become surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
But if Chelsea were to pull off the unlikely coup in Januray, the midfielder would be eligible for the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Andre Villas-Boas would welcome the signing of a proven midfield holder after Michael Essien’s suffered his third long-term knee ligament injury, but it seems unlikely that Khedira will be that man.
