Chelsea are believed to be readying a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Douglas Costa.
The Ukrainian club have found themselves bombarded by requests for their players from English clubs with Arsenal said to be on the verge of completing a deal for Jadson while Spurs are competing with their North London rivals over the signature of Willian. Now Dpuglas – as he commonly referred to – has emerged as a target for Chelsea and could join his Brazilian countrymen in the Premier League next season.
The Blues are looking to add more dynamism to their attack as well as youth and the 20-year-old attacking midfielder-cum-forward would certainly address that problem. Naturally left-footed, his potential arrival would cast doubt over Florent Malouda’s Stamford Bridge future.
However, it is highly unlikely that Shakhtar would allow three of their brightest talents to leave in the same transfer window. The club are also bankrolled by banking billionaire Rinat Akhmetov so they are not exactly in need of the cash. Still, Chelsea have a knack of getting players that they really want and if they really are interested, Douglas could well be wearing the blue shirt by the end of August.
