The Buffalo Bills have placed veteran linebacker Shawne Merriman on injured reserve on Tuesday after an Achilles injury ended his NFL season.
It’s the same injury that forced him to go on injured reserve shortly after Buffalo signed him as a free agent last season.
The Bills said the injury flared up on Thursday before Buffalo’s 27-24 loss to the New York Giants. He missed the game on Sunday.
Despite his injury woes, Buffalo had re-signed Merriman to a two-year deal in January, a day before their 2010 season finale.
The Bills had hoped the former first overall draft selection would contribute on their pass-rush, but he had been hampered by a knee injury and shoulder trouble prior to the latest recurrence of his Achilles problem.
