Benfica face Basel this week in the UEFA Champions League in a match that has proved near impossible to prepare for.
The Swiss team lost their manager Thorsten Fink to German team Hamburger SV just days ago, and it will be interesting to see how caretaker boss Heiko Vogel sets the team up against Benfica.
Vogel’s first game in charge could hardly have gone much better.
Basel beat FC Schotz 5-1 in the Swiss Cup at the weekend, and with Xherdan Shaquiri returning from a two match European suspension, they could certainly trouble the Portuguese giants.
Still, Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay, signed from Real Madrid in the summer, is confident that the team can do well.
Benfica are unbeaten both in the league and in Europe this season, and have high hopes.
“Next is the Champions League, which is a goal we all want and hope to achieve. We will try to get a good result for the next phase,” said the Argentine centre back to Benfica TV.
