The Bundesliga runners-up have more injury concerns ahead of the Bayern Munich clash.
With the Champions League final on Saturday quickly approaching Borussia Dortmund could be without key defender Mats Hummels for the Bayern Munich match.
Hummels injured his ankle during his side’s Bundesliga tie with Hoffenheim at the weekend and it is going to be touch and go as to whether he will be fit for Dortmund’s biggest game of the season.
“His ankle is a bit swollen. There is a chance for Wembley, but it will be tight,” manager Jurgen Klopp was quoted on Sky Sports.
There has been a strong link that Barcelona will make a move for the German defender this summer and if he does miss the final he may have played his last match for the club.
The 24-year-old is contracted with Dortmund until 2017 but has declared his interest in joining Barca in recent weeks and its believed an offer of around £21million would tempt the German side into selling.
This setback of Hummels’ fitness for Klopp’s side comes after the positive news that attacking midfielder Mario Gotze should be ready for the final after suffering from injury himself.
The Germany international has already agreed to depart the club in the summer and the Champions League match will be his last game for Dortmund before he joins their opponents Munich.
As for Hummels his final appearance in a black and yellow shirt may already have passed, although he will obviously be keen to get back to full fitness in time for Saturday’s clash.
