Aston Villa and Newcastle extended their unbeaten starts to the season to five games after an entertaining 1-1 draw.
Gabriel Agbonlahor scored his third goal of the season, slotting in from 10 yards, after his volley had been blocked by Fabricio Coloccini.
But Leon Best earned the away side a point, firing home from close range after Shay Given had saved his initial header.
Villa opened the scoring with Agbonlahor quickest to react after his first-time effort from Barry Bannan’s centre hit Coloccini, before he beat Tim Krul with a low shot.
Shortly after Agbonlahor’s strike, Alex McLeish’s men assumed control with Bannan smashing a dipping 25-yard volley inches wide, while Darren Bent should have doubled their lead.
However, the home side were made to pay after struggling to clear their lines after midfielder Cabaye struck the crossbar with a curling 25-year shot.
The ball was passed out to Cheik Tiote down the left whose deep cross was met by Best who was denied by Given but gladly helped himself to the rebound.
