Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger denied rumors that the club was interested in Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, citing the club’s depth at the position.
In a press conference following Arsenal’s 4-0 drubbing of Aston Villa in the FA Cup Final, Wenger scoffed at the idea that the Gunners were looking to add yet another big name to a midfield that already includes Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mathieu Flamini and captain Mikel Arteta.
According to the Mirror, when asked about Vidal directly, Wenger said, “Arturo Vidal? You must be from Chile!
“We have good midfielders and at the moment we are not looking at Arturo Vidal.”
Vidal has been part of a Juventus team that has absolutely dominated Serie A – winning four straight Serie A titles from 2011 to 2015 – and faces Barcelona in the upcoming Champions League Final. In 124 appearances with Juventus, Vidal has recorded 35 goals.
