The north Londoners are targeting Southampton’s Chambers.
Southampton right-back Calum Chambers has emerged as the favourite to replace Bacary Sagna at Arsenal this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The hunt for an alternative for the Frenchman is on as Sagna has failed to agree a new deal at the Emirates Stadium despite extensive negotiations.
The Gunners tabled a two-year extension for the 31-year-old with wages staying at around £60,000-a-week, whilst the full-back wanted three years at closer to £90,000-a-week.
Manchester City are keeping a close eye on the progress and manager Manuel Pellegrini is prepared to give Sagna an outlet at the Etihad Stadium.
This is why the north Londoners have headed to the south coast and several scouting trips have come back with positive reports concerning Chambers.
The 19-year-old broke into the first team this season and after filling in for Nathaniel Clyne has made the position his own and has now made 23 appearances in all competitions in 2013/14.
Chambers is the captain of the England Under-19s and to date has 15 caps at that level, but after catching the eye of high profile clubs that could be set to change imminently.
Arsene Wenger has shown interest in a number of Sagna replacements in recent times, with Toulouse’s Serge Aurier also a major target.
With Carl Jenkinson considered not to be good enough for the team then it is not unrealistic to think two new faces in the position could be signed in the close season.
