Arsenal will not be welcoming Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena to the fold this summer with the player determined to stay where is for another season.
The Gunners are looking to sign a schemer after the loss of Cesc Fabgregas to FC Barcelona and had hoped Valbuena could be prised from the south coast of France and planted into their midfield but have been told that they will have to wait until if they want to sign him with his agent Christophe Huteau telling French newspaper, La Provence: “He intends to stay at OM. His departure is scheduled for June 2012 after the European Championship”
If that wasn’t definitive enough, Marseille manager Didier Deschamps reiterated the sentiment by telling a news conference: “Arsene Wenger and Arsenal will not take Mathieu. It is clear.”
Wenger will now have to look at other options which include Lille’s Eden Hazard and Napoli’s Marek Hamsik.
