Mathieu Flamini – 6
Another robust and solid display as others around the Frenchman began to wane and show signs of sluggishness.
Flamini has certainly brought the grit and physicality to the side that has been said to be lacking for so long.
Aaron Ramsey – 6
Asked to play on the right and did so solidly without being able to excel and looked much better when brought back to the middle.
It was an odd decision to put the Welshman out wide when the 22-year-old has had so much success this campaign from the middle of the park.
Santi Cazorla – 4
Not a good day for the attacking midfielder, who like Arteta could not string together any decent moves and lacked creativity all afternoon.
Was eventually subbed and the United defence will be pleased at having kept the Spain international so quiet.
Mesut Ozil – 4
Like Cazorla the German was smothered by a strong defence and never got into the game and looked slow and sluggish.
Having impressed so much since arriving from Real Madrid it was something of a surprise to see Ozil go so badly missing in this match.
Olivier Giroud – 3
The biggest dud of the lot was the striker, who despite having generally impressed in 2013/14 could not get into the game at the Theatre of Dreams.
Could not make anything happen in attack and was also the man who failed to mark Van Persie when the Dutchman scored the only goal of the match.
