Arsenal attempted to sign Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Yoann Gourcuff on loan just before the transfer window shut, according to the club president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Gourcuff conceded in February that he was “disappointed and frustrated” with his displays at Lyon, saying, “I expected a lot more of myself” and “It’s clear that my attacking contribution is not enough.”
Despite that, Gourcuff remains a fine playmaker – and a player that analyses the game and is known to interest Arsene Wenger.
“I had a call on the penultimate day of the transfer window [from Arsenal scout] Gilles Grimandi for a loan deal,” Lyon president Aulas told RMC.
“We believe in the recovery of Yoann. He has just resumed training.
“We made the choice [to keep] Gourcuff, just like last year.
“It was difficult [for him] last year. Hopefully he is going to prove his capabilities this year.”
