Arsenal are being linked with some major activity in the next transfer window with two players reportedly featuring high on manager Arsene Wenger’s wishlist.
The Mirror are one of a number of outlets that are claiming that the Gunners will make a concerted effort to bring Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas to the Emirates Stadium in January. The Peru international is a versatile player though he is best suited to the left flank where he most effective both for club and country.
In fact, wingers seem to be the position of choice for Wenger who – according to CaughtOffside.com – is also eyeing up Barcelona youngster Rafa Alcantara. The 18-year-old is the brother of Thiago Alcantara who has recently broken into the first team at Camp Nou and who played a starring role in Spain’s recent triumph at the Under 21 European Championships.
However, it is doubtful that Arsenal will sign both these players. Theo Walcott is well-established while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has impressed in his initial performances in North London. It is more likely that Wenger will run the rule over the pair and decide which one is more suitable for his squad. Judging by the Frenchman’s past dealings, one would expect the teenager to get the nod over the 27-year-old but you never know.
