Arsenal have ended their interest in singing Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard was the subject of two bids from the Gunners – £6m and £10m – but it appears that Everton have rejected both. With Arsenal not prepared to raise their bid any further for a 29-year-old, they will concentrate their efforts on signing Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea.
The news will no doubt be a blow to Arsenal fans who have been vocal in their support for the acquisition of Artet.
Instead it looks like they will have to make do with the arrival of Benayoun who is in talks over a possible loan switch from Stamford Bridge.
