Arsenal could make an astronomical £40m offer for Chelsea owned forward Romelu Lukaku in the summer, reports the Daily Mail.
The prodigal young Belgian forward has shone on loan at Everton this term, backing up his excellent spell with West Brom last season. With the Baggies, he registered 17 Premier League goals, and this term with the Toffees, he’s notched 13 top flight goals so far, and created six for teammates as well.
As a result, Arsene Wenger has earmarked him as a potential signing this summer, to ease his club’s striker woes.
Current first-choice forward Olivier Giroud is out of form, and there are doubts about his long-term suitability at an elite level. Nicklas Bendtner is leaving in the summer when his contract expires, and Yaya Sanogo has yet to score a goal for the club.
Lukaku would add pace, power and aggression to the Arsenal lineup, although it’s unsure whether Chelsea would be willing to sell to a direct rival.
An astronomical bid of £40m though would undoubtedly tempt them into selling, with Chelsea keen on recruiting a big money striker of their own in the summer.
