Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has confirmed that the club are looking at buying “a few players” this summer.
Hill-Wood gave an interview with the Daily Star in which he revealed his disdain for Barcelona’s attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas, and that there would be a few signings coming in at Emirates Stadium.
They are edging closer to the signing of Juan Mata from Valencia, with the Express reporting the Spain star as telling friends of his imminent move.
Furthermore, Arsenal are believed to have bid £15m for Everton defender Phil Jagielka, in order to reinforce their back line in terms of set pieces.
“We have made a bid for him but they didn’t think it was enough,” Hill-Wood said.
What may be more exciting news to Arsenal fans is that the Daily Star claims that they are still attempting to sign Eden Hazard from Lille.
The Belgium international was voted the best player in Ligue 1 last season, and Arsenal have long retained a first option on his signing.
Andrey Arshavin has recently been linked with a move to Galatasaray for a cool £18m, freeing up money for Hazard.
If Arsene Wenger can retain Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, as well as sign Jagielka, Mata and Hazard, this could be the ambitious summer that Arsenal fans were hoping for.
“We are trying to buy a few players but it isn’t going to happen overnight,” claimed Hill-Wood.
