Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is the next big player to be the subject of a bid from Russia’s mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala, reports The Sun.
Fresh from completing a £20m deal to make Samuel Eto’o the world’s highest paid footballer, Anzhi have now set their sights on bringing Vidic back to Russia to add quality to their defensive line.
The club are reportedly preparing a bid for the United star, who could be tempted to sell due to their own financial worries
The Manchester club have plenty of cover at centre back, and have high expectations for the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, who may now have to make the step up to the United first team sooner than first hoped.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to put up a fight to keep his captain, but if a huge bid is forthcoming, the decision may be out of his hands and it could be difficult for Vidic to reject a move if offered a similar deal to Eto’o, who is now on a reported £300,000 a week wage.
Anzhi are bankrolled by Russian billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimou, whose personal fortune is estimated to be around £5bn.
Vidic signed for United for £7m from Spartak Moscow in 2006 and has been one of the first names on the team sheet ever since.
