‘We’re not a stepping stone to anybody,’ says Spurs manager AVB.
Andre Villas-Boas has told the agent of Vlad Chiriches that Tottenham are ‘not a stepping stone to anybody’ after he linked his client with a move to Chelsea.
Spurs signed Chiriches, 23, for £8.5m from Steau Bucharest in the summer and the Romania captain has impressed in his two Europa League appearances for the club.
But the centre back’s agent Victor Becali suggested this week that the former Benfica player only moved to North London with a view to impressing Chelsea, leaving Villas-Boas incensed.
“Obviously the comments are completely disproportionate and out of reality,” the Portuguese said.
“I have spoken to the player, told the player to speak to the agent and we have acted accordingly.
“We consider ourselves a big club. We’re not a stepping stone to anybody.
“We don’t expect Becali to retract himself because it is not part of his character, but it was completely out of proportion the comments that he made.”
