Seahawks currently favourites to lift their first Lombardi Trophy.
San Francisco 49ers fans are set to fire up the rivalry with their NFC West counterparts, the Seattle Seahawks, with a billboard in their city.
The group of 49ers fans have raised $8,000 to purchase a billboard in Seattle as they look to taunt their rivals with images of the five Super Bowl trophies that they have won as a franchise.
While the project is expected to cost $7,000 in total, the remaining funds will be contributed to Seattle’s Children’s Hospital, according to project manager Aasheesh Shravah.
As reported by ESPN, the group’s website confirmed that they had raised $8,379 so far as of Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, further details have been leaked over how the billboard will look, with suggestions that “The Catch”, Dwight Clark’s legendary game-winning grab in the 1982 NFC Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys, will be hidden behind the trophies.
The group’s website went on to reveal that they have contacted multiple companies in Seattle to find various ad locations, with a view to billboards being visible for “at least one month, all during December, and some of January for their playoff games”.
The billboard would come after Seahawks fans bought a personalised brick at the 49ers’ new stadium and arranged earlier this month for a 12th man banner to be flown over Candlestick Park.
The Seahawks have made just one appearance in the Super Bowl in their franchise history, but are favourites to win the Lombardi Trophy this season as they boast an NFL-best record of 12-2.
While the 49ers will be aiming for a sixth title, the pair have split their two meetings so far this season with each winning at home.
