Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week, Detroit Lions LB DeAndre Levy was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and Atlanta Falcons K Matt Bryant was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Matt Ryan set an Atlanta Falcons franchise passing record with 448 passing yards along with three TDs and no INTs in Atlanta’s 37-34 overtime over New Orleans on Sunday. In victory, the Falcons overcame two 13-point deficits, and Ryan’s play was instrumental in Atlanta’s stirring comeback. To force overtime, Ryan led an eight-play, 47-yard drive in the final 1:20 of regulation, with a 21-yard strike to Devin Hester putting Atlanta in range for Matt Bryant to tie the game with a field goal.
DeAndre Levy had 10 tackles against the Giants on Monday and added an interception that bounced off several body parts and nearly hit the ground before Levy was able to secure it. That pick ended the Giants’ first drive of the second half and set up a field goal that extended Detroit’s lead to 10 points on the way to a 35-14 victory.
Bryant nailed a 51-yard field goal at the end of regulation to pull the Falcons into a tie and then hammered one home from 52 yards after the Falcons forced a fumble to end the Saints’ first possession. The Falcons won the game 37-34.
