Chilean linked with return to Serie A.
Napoli are reportedly considering a bid for Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez, although Jackson Martinez remains their primary target.
The Partenopei are set to continue their spending spree this summer, with their transfer market remaining in Spain after the signings of Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon and Gonzalo Higuain.
Having recouped €64m for former striker Edinson Cavani who sealed a move to PSG, owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has promised to reinvest significantly in the squad and give Rafa Benitez the best possible start to life in Naples.
While the Italian media continue to suggest that Porto’s Martinez is their priority as they prepare to unveil Higuain at the San Paolo on Monday night, they are also monitoring the situation of former Udinese ace Sanchez, as reported by Football Italia.
It is unclear at this stage as to how much the club would be willing to offer for the 24-year-old Chilean, who has seen his progress somewhat stunted since his switch to Spain.
Sanchez became an integral and exciting part of Francesco Guidolin’s Udinese side two years ago, and was regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Europe after impressing with his pace, power and eye for goal.
However, he has failed to find the same sort of consistency since arriving at the Camp Nou, and it is believed that he is open to the possibility of returning to Italy and gaining more playing time.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether or not Napoli agree on a deal to sign Martinez, with their finances likely to only allow them to sign one of the two stars.
