Mike Alvarado will defend the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship against Ruslan Provodnikov when they square off in the American’s backyard in Denver this weekend.
Alvarado is coming off a win against Brandon Rios where he claimed his current belt, when he defeated him by unanimous decision in March this year.
His Russian opponent will be looking to bounce back with his last fight being a loss at the hands of rising star Timothy Bradley, after he lost a unanimous decision also in March this year.
Alvarado will carry a couple of physical advantages into his fight with Ruslan Provodnikov. He’s a few inches taller and a few inches longer.
That should play into his likely game plan, which will be to engage the Russian when necessary, but to focus on controlling that aggression with solid boxing.
However, the chances this could turn into one of the fights of the year goes beyond hype and fans of the sport are set to see two hungry fighters lock horns.
