Watch the first qualifier of Chennai vs Mumbai in the 2013 IPL play-offs.
Where: Ferozeshah Stadium
The play-offs kick start with Chennai Super Kings taking on Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier of the last four in the 2013 IPL.
With the two sides suffering defeat in their last matches of the league format, Chennai nipped ahead of Mumbai into first with a slightly better net run rate.
By finishing in the top two positions in the IPL table both the franchises have the perfect opportunity to book their place in the final with a win.
For the loser, they will get another chance at making the competition decider on Friday, facing the winner of Rajasthan Royals v Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier.
The two sides have had another impressive Twenty20 campaign, each winning 11 of their 16 matches and cruising into the play-offs with 22 points and two games to spare.
CSK have a formidable batting line-up to thank for much of their success with captain MS Dhoni, Mike Hussey and Suresh Raina all looking sharp in the middle.
With Royals Challengers Bangalore eliminated, Hussey has a realistic opportunity to overtake RCB batsman Chris Gayle in the race for the Orange Cap award for most IPL runs.
As for Mumbai, their captain Rohit Sharma has been influential both with the bat and as a leader and is credited with much of the franchise’s success in 2013.
A bowling attack of Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga – who have both re-found their form at the crucial stage – make Mumbai an intimidating prospect.
